All Danganronpa Characters Ranking
All Danganronpa Characters Ranking
Hello readers, and welcome to my next post. Apologies for taking so long with this one, despite my goal for once a month. I just had trouble deciding what I wanted to do next. Whether to rank the characters of the MCU or Star Wars; do a ranking for the Danganronpa trials or the characters' intelligence level; or touch on a different series altogether.
In the end, I decided to rank the Danganronpa characters once again, all at once. From 1-V3, we're gonna see how the Ultimates from these three games stack up against each other. And not only will it be a ranking, but it will double as a tier list as well.
However, instead of full on explanations like I did with my previous rankings, I'm gonna shorten my reasons here. Reason being, because I already explained why they're high or low tier characters in the previous rankings.
Like with the previous three Danganronpa rankings, the characters will be judged on personality, background, complexity, likability, and importance. And their rankings will be based DR1, DR2, and DRV3. I won't be using any of the spin-offs or the DR3 anime for this ranking.
Also, spoiler warning. If you haven't played/watched any of the Danganronpa games, leave now. If you don't care, or have played/watched them, then enjoy.
D-Rank: Unlikeable and Boring Character
These characters are from the bottom of the barrel, either having unlikeable traits, or just flat out boring.
48. Tsumagi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer
A boring character, as well as a flat villain, with no development, complexity, personality, or interesting background. Throughout most of the game, Tsumagi didn't had any sort of presence. She was just a background character amongst a cast of unique and colorful students.
Even when she revealed herself as a villain, she didn't have the charisma or presence that main villains like Junko and Monica had. She was merely a puppet for the true mastermind, Team Danganronpa. So for this boring cosplayer and mastermind, she's deemed the worst character in the entire list.
47. Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Cook
A massive pervert, as well as a cowardly dog, who's willing to put aphrodisiac inside somebody's food without them knowing. While Teruteru has much more personality than Tsumagi, I'm very hesitant to say that it's for the better. He's a very vulgar individual, making far too many innuendos, flirts to the point of sexual harassment, and tries to take advantage of those that he can.
That, along with his cowardly tendencies shown throughout chapter 1, doesn't help him become a likeable character. What keeps from him being dead last is that he has much more personality than Tsumagi, as well as a bit more depth to him. Unfortunately, his chance to develop outside of a dirty old man was taken in the first chapter.
46. Yasuhiro Hagakure, the Ultimate Clairvoyant
A selfish idiot, who would sell someone else's organs in order to keep artifacts that he thinks is real. That one statement should tell you how idiotic and seflish this fortune teller is. Yasuhiro is not someone you would get along with once you know him better, as his classmates can probably concur. There's very little redeeming factors about him, and even then, he was mostly a detriment to the survivors.
Still, while those traits far from make him a likeable or interesting character, he does provide good comedy relief. Plus, he had moments to shine in the game (They're few in number, but they're there). Those two factors keeps him from going any further down on the list.
45. Hifumi Yamada, the Ultimate Fanfic Creator
The embodiment of a stereotypical geek, from looks to personality. Hifumi Yamada really personify the stereotypes geeks are linked to, from the nasally voice, to the looks, to the geek talk he does. He also has creepy perverted tendencies, despite his so-called devotion to 2-d.
However, he's not completely bad. He does have a better moral compass than those above him, as shown when he felt righteous anger at what Celeste lied to him about. Plus, a bit of the story and his fte display a bit of his loneliness, with gives him a bit more personality. While not much, it's something.
44. Korekiyo Shinguji, the Ultimate Anthropologist
A character who started out interesting at first, only to end up a serial killer with a sis-con. At the start, Korekiyo was a polite and friendly individual, who had a eccentric passion for all things humanity, and was one of the more intelligent and rational students in the killing game. All those things started off for an interesting character.
However, all that was ripped away in third trial. He was not only the killer, but a crazed serial killer, who murders those he deemed worthy to become friends with his deceased sister. Best part? He has a obsessive attraction for said sister. So, yeah, while more interesting than those above, it's not for the better.
43. Miu Iruma, The Ultimate Inventor
The most annoying and vulgar character out of the series, though has proved to be useful at times. Throughout the V3 killing game, Miu has proven more and more to be an unlikeable and annoying character. She's someone who can dish out insults and arrogant comments, but can't take any back.
But while she's far from likeable, that doesn't mean she isn't useful. She proved time and time again that she earned the Ultimate Inventor title, creating things that has gotten the survivors out of different binds. That's the only thing that places her this high on the list, and keeps her from getting any lower.
42. Hiyoko Sainji, the Ultimate Traditional Dancer
A child-size bully whose path of redemption was cut short. From the start, Hiyoko revealed herself to be a cruel and arrogant bully, who also can't take what she dishes out. There's little to no empathy from the little girl, and even during trials, was lashing out insults or threats.
The thing that got her this high is her interesting background, which gives a more in-depth personality. While it doesn't justify her bullying, it makes understandable. Also, she had a chance develop more during chapter 3 and redeem herself. Unfortunately, she was killed before that chance could flourish.
C-Rank: Decent/Mixed Characters
These characters are either a mixed bag of good and bad qualities, or just fairly decent characters, both of which could've been better.
41. Mukuro Ikusaba, the Ultimate Soldier
A disguised, walking plot point with a interesting background. Really, there's nothing to really hate or like about her character. Due to disguising herself as Junko, and being killed at the first chapter, any chance of development in the first game was gone.
What saved her from the D-rank list was fairly interesting background, being a part of a mercenary corp, possibly living on the streets with Junko, and her involvement with the Tragedy. Her past, as well as being a surprise plot point, put her in the C-ranking.
40. Leon Kuwata, the Ultimate Baseball Star
A friendly baseball star, who was executed in the first chapter. Leon here is a fairly likable character, being a generally friendly person. While he's passionate, arrogant, a bit of a playboy, and lazy, none of those traits are grating compared to Hiro, Teruteru, or Hifumi.
Sadly for him, he didn't get much of a chance to shine. He got executed in the first chapter of the first game, thus ending any development or further in-depth look into the character.
39. The Ultimate Imposter
An imposter with very little identity of his own. Thanks to his disguise as Byakuya Togami, we know very little of the Ultimate Imposter. He's mostly used for a surprise first death of the DR2 killing game, and had little chance to develop to his own character.
What we do know is that he's someone who cares for others, who's openly proud about his rather plump body, and is insecure about that lack of identity. Those little things does make him a tad more developed than Mukuro or Leon, thus placing him higher on the list.
38. Peko Pekoyama, the Ultimate Swords-woman
A loyal bodyguard with a crush on her master, as well as very little identity of her own. Like Mukuro and The Ultimate Imposter, we don't much about Peko Pekoyama. We know about her loyalty to Fuyuhiko and the Kuzuryuu clan, as well as other little things, but other than that, she doesn't really develop into her own character.
At the same time though, it's because of her relationship with Fuyuhiko, her reveal as the yakuza's sword, that places this far in the ranking. Perhaps if she branched out as her own character, or even have her relationship with Fuyuhiko developed further, she could be higher. As it stands, the self-proclaimed tool will have settle for this spot on the list.
37. Rantaro Amami, the Ultimate Survivor
A friendly and compose mystery character, whose linked to the entire plot. Rantaro here is a likable enough character, and thanks to his Ultimate Survivor status, he's a big part of the plot. But other than the mystery surrounding him, he doesn't much standout amongst the large cast of developed and complex students.
And since he was the first to be murdered in V3, that stopped any further development he could've gotten. Still, with his friendly yet compose nature, and his major connection to the story of V3, it paints as a decent enough character to get this high on the list.
36. Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jack, the Ultimate Writing Prodigy/Murderous Fiend
A rude, spiteful, and bitter writer, as well as a vibrant, cheerful, and out-going serial killer. As Toko Fukawa, she's a very depressing character, and like Hiro, was more of a detriment to the killing game. While her past wasn't pretty, it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make her likable during DR1.
However, her split personality, Genocide Jack, is much sunnier character. The serial killer gives much more life, as well as some complexity, to the morose book writer. Thanks to that, Toko is kept from the D-Rank and place in the C-Rank.
35. Tenko Chabashira, the Ultimate Aikido Master
A cheerful, yet gullible girl with a hatred for "degenerate males". At times, Tenko can be that energetic and likable neo-aikido fighter. Other times, she's either a man-hater or a obsessed Himiko fangirl. She can also be very gullible and emotional, which can make endearing and/or annoying.
The girl has both bad traits and good traits to her, which could make her a complicated one to rank. Still, with her good traits, she's a fairly decent character, which leaves her a C-Rank.
34. Angie Yonaga, the Ultimate Artist
An cheerful island girl who constantly talks about a deity called "Atua". At first, it seemed like she could be a purely likable character. But as the game continued, her constant mentioning of atua became grating, and manipulative and unreasonably stubborn side started showing.
Thankfully for her, her fte gave us context to her personality, helping her look more understandable. Also, despite her manipulative side, she does want to stop the killing from happening, and is one of the more logical characters during the trial. This gives her a few extra positive points.
33. Akane Owari, the Ultimate Gymnast
An aggressive, gullible, acrobatic fighter, who tries to solve all her problems with her fist. While Akane is an easy-going and friendly girl, her overly aggressive nature is definitely an irritating aspect. But, like Angie, her fte gives context to her personality, and helps make her a more complex character.
However, she doesn't really grow or developed from her gullible and aggressive personality. She doesn't learn from her mistakes, or even try to find different ways of solving problems. This keeps her from going any higher on the list.
32. Kazuichi Soda, the Ultimate Engineer
A paranoid mechanic with a large crush (obsession) on a princess. At the start, Kazuichi was a more balanced out character. He was someone with a lot of bravado, along with a mild crush on Sonia, yet a good friend with Hajime. He was paranoia, but not overly so.
However, chapter 4 onward, and he got mildly worse. His crush turned obsessive, with paranoia showing up more often. However, while he got more annoying as the game went on, he was still fairly useful to the cast, with his knowledge of engineering coming up more than once. So overall, still a decent character.
31. Mahiru Koizumi, the Ultimate Photographer
A brash, pushy redhead with a friendly and motherly side. While her brash and judgmental personality can make her unlikable, Mahiru also has a motherly side to her that paints her much better as a character.
Thanks to how harshly she can treat the boys, people could mistake her as man-hater. However, her fte with Hajime, which showed her having a crush on him, keeps that image from being true. Plus, she does have inner insecurities that help counter that brash personality.
30. Mikan Tsumiki, the Ultimate Nurse
An extremely timid, apologetic, and clumsy nurse. From when you first meet Mikan, you can tell that she's a shy character. Extremely shy. Because of that, as well as her (un)natural clumsiness, the character can be a bit annoying for some.
However, her expertise in the nurse field makes up for it. Several times, her knowledge of nursing has been extremely helpful for the survivors, and whenever she is in her nurse mode, much of that shyness is evaporated. Also, her fte helps give context to her timidness, making her more developed and sympathetic.
B-Rank: Solid and Enjoyable Characters
Like the above title mentions, these characters are much more enjoyable. They're either pretty likable, fairly complex, solidly developed, or a mix of the three.
29. Sayaka Maizono, the Ultimate Pop Sensation
The friendly and intuitive pop idol who was the very first student to be killed. Throughout the first chapter, Sayaka displayed herself as a pretty likable character. She's kind, a tad mischievous, fairly cheerful, and got pretty good intuition. Plus, she had a lot of chemistry with Makoto.
But like Rantaro and the Ultimate Imposter above, she was the first to be executed. However, what places her this high on the list is not only she was a murder victim, but also the assailant. She was the one who attempted to kill someone, desperate to get out, only to end up the victim by her target. This helps give the idol a level of complexity, as well as some importance to the overall plot.
28. Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the Ultimate Moral Compass
A passionate, rule-abiding student who later merged with a biker. From the start, Taka expresses himself as passionate and diligent, trying his best to keep the group together and alive. His fte gave him further depth to his character, showing why he's the way he is, along with his friendship with Mondo.
When Mondo died, he became despondent for much of chapter 3, only recovering, and even taking some of Mondo's personality, thanks to Makoto and Alter Ego. Unfortunately, any further development ended with his death on the very same chapter, thus keeping him from ranking any higher.
27. Kirumi Tojo, the Ultimate Maid
The composed super maid and secret minister of Japan. Kirumi is someone who intelligent, mature, insightful, and polite. She very much exemplifies her title as the Ultimate Maid, and is eager to serve anyone that's in need of her service.
However, that eagerness to serve leaves her unable to do things for herself, which led her to death in chapter two. Having 'remembered' her life as the secret minister, she did everything she could in order to get out, from lying and manipulating to murdering. That led to her execution, and leave her a likable yet complex character, whose determination was the cause of her downfall.
26. Ryoma Hoshi, the Ultimate Tennis Player
A tennis player and death row inmate, who killed the mafia that murdered his loved ones. Ryoma is yet another one of the mature students, being compose and cool-headed, yet dangerous when pushed. Not only is he the Ultimate Tennis Player, but also a death row inmate, who lost all loved ones to mafia. Because of that, as well as the murder he committed, he lost all sense of self preservation and doesn't care about dying at all.
Despite that, he hasn't completely lost his identity. He still held a kindness and positive outlook, as shown as he gave advice to some of the students. And when the second motive gave him an opportunity to have something to live for, he wanted to take it. Unfortunately, the motive reveals that there's nothing and no one to care for, thus doubling down his depression. It gave Kirumi the chance to kill him, thus stopping any further development.
25. Mondo Oowada, the Ultimater Biker Gang Leader
A biker with a hair-trigger temper, as well as a few different layers around him. At first, Mondo was just a stereotypical delinquent with high anger issues, little to no patience, and a disregard for the rules. However, during chapter one and two, along with his fte, we get to see a more friendly and softer side from him.
And during the trial of chapter two, we get to see a much more complex Mondo. We see someone who's insecure about his position in life; someone who has a complexity about weakness; and someone who's, while physically strong, was mentally weak. All that help cement his ranking here.
24. Gonta Gokuhara, the Ultimate Entomologist
A kindhearted giant with a knowledge and love for bugs. Gonta Gokuhara is probably one of the most kindhearted and joyful characters in the series, if not the most kindhearted and joyful. He's also a very honest fellow, as well as very protective of his classmates.
Despite his gentle nature, however, he tends to get emotional, specifically when it comes to people hating bugs, and violence and death. He's also very dumb, which leaves him to be easily manipulated. All this led to his death in chapter four of V3, where he ended up the killer for Miu Iruma.
23. K1-B0, the Ultimate Robot
A dorky, semi-normal robot who tries really hard to a part of human society. Despite being a robot, there's nothing really unique when it comes to K1-B0, causing him to be the butt-monkey of the V3 cast. However, his normalcy and the self-awareness of it makes him a likable character.
What also places him in the B-rank is his development in the sixth chapter, from actually seeing why he the deserve the title of Ultimate Robot, to his sacrifice to save the remaining survivors. That, along with his fte, helps make him a very solid character.
22. Celestia Ludenberg, the Ultimate Gambler
An very complex gambler that has a love for gothic clothing. Throughout the game, Celestia Ludenberg have shown herself to be a manipulative and vain person, who's only looking out for herself. However, at the same time, there are hints in various scenes that at the very least, that isn't all to her.
It's mainly her fte and the third trial of DR1 that hints to a different side to her. They hint to her manipulative side being a mask; that behind the mask is someone that isn't as vain or apathetic as she makes herself out to be. Those little hints in both in her events and the third trial makes a very complex character.
21. Ibuki Mioda, the Ultimate Musician
A cheerful and quirky guitarist with a contemplative side to her. Ibuki is definitely one of the more unique characters of the series, having an energy and spunk that very few character can match. Even when things are serious, she doesn't let it affect her negatively.
However, beneath that upbeat personality is someone surprisingly wise and contemplative, who always try to find a way to help out those close to her. It mainly shown through her fte, and hinted in chapter three of DR2. That contemplative side bumps her a few number highers in this ranking.
A-Rank: Complex and Developed Characters
These characters are very well-written. They are a mix of very multi-layered, highly developed, and/or utterly adorable/charming.
20. Aoi Asahina
A very likable swimmer, who can be air-headed and emotional at times. Through most of the game, Hina was a very cheerful and friendly character, who get along with many of the characters. She's especially close with Sakura, the two becoming fast friends.
However, the girl has her moments of stupidity, as well as letting her emotions override her head. She's a very open person, which means she can let anger or grief get the better of her a lot of the time. Those traits don't detract her characters, however, but rather increases it.
19. Kaede Akamatsu
A charismatic decoy protagonist, that had a strong enough presence to get this far on the list. Despite her short time in V3, Kaede had made a very strong impression, showing herself as a charismatic and optimistic girl. She quickly took on the role of leader in the group, trying to keep the group together while they figuring a way out; and she also provided some excellent chemistry with the actual protagonist, Shuichi.
However, like any good character, she isn't perfect. Her biggest flaw is her personal sense of justice, something that she pushed onto her classmates until Kokichi spoke out against her. It also led to her killing Rantaro by mistake, when she was attempting to take out the mastermind, leading to her execution and giving Shuichi the role as protagonist.
18. Byakuya Togami, the Ultimate Affluent
The highly intelligent and arrogant Togami heir, who manged to develop throughout the killing game. From the moment he was introduce, it was clear that he was gonna be a rich jerk. But while that remain true, there's more to this character than just his arrogant and condescending attitude.
His fte gave us more background to his personality, as well as reveal that he wasn't just born privileged; and both the events and the main story show off his intelligence at different points. But what really got him the A spot is his development in the fourth chapter of the game, where he managed to change his perspective some and ally himself with the survivors.
17. Sonia Nevermind, the Ultimate Princess
A regal, yet quirky princess, who's very friendly and kind with everyone around her. Sonia Nevermind is definitely a princess, both inside and out. However, while she held many of the qualities princesses have, she also have a few odd traits about her, such as her fascination with serial killers.
She's also fairly intelligent, as shown in tidbits in each chapter of DR2; shown to care deeply for those close to her; and fairly naive in some aspects of society. There's a lot to this character, shown in tidbits spread throughout the story. Her pleasant, yet quirky, disposition, as well as her surprisingly complexity
16. Nekomaru Nidai, the Ultimate Team Manager
A loud and passionate coach, whose will and strength is equally loud. Nekomaru Nidia is a very boisterous individual, as well as an open-hearted. The thing that places him this high, however, is his loyalty, courage, and willpower.
The team manager is someone willing to sacrifice himself for those cares for if need be. He proves that not once, but twice, taking a bazooka blast that would kill most people and battling against Gundham in order to get the others out of starvation. Both times, he didn't waver, never had a second thought.
15. Gundham Tanaka, the Ultimate Breeder
A villain chuunibyou and caretaker who's a big softy on the inside. From the start, it was clear as day that Gundham was a chuunibyou. From his looks, to his dramatics, to his extreme confidence and dark personality, it's obvious the breeder view himself as a overlord.
However, beneath his chuunibyou personality, lies a much kinder and more sensitive personality. It's clear that cares very much for animals and just life itself, and at times, he can be awkward around the others (specifically when Sonia gives him and/or his hamsters compliments). Also, he's very loyal to his friends, as shown when he fought and killed Nekomaru, becoming the blacken in order to revive his classmates' will to live.
14. Kaito Momota, the Ultimate Astronaut
A surprisingly charismatic astronaut, with a lot of bravado, yet plenty of heart. At first, Kaito seemed like he would be the butt monkey of the group. But while he does have some butt-monkey moments, he isn't just a plain idiot. The astronaut is very charismatic, surprisingly insightful, and very loyal to his friends. He's someone that will believe in his friends till the very end, and denounce the idea of distrusting others.
But while it his greatest strength, it also doubles as his greatest flaw, as he could (and did) defend someone that was actually the killer. Because of that, when he belief failed him, he was fairly demoralized for a bit, showing a bit of inner insecurities. So his charisma, as well as the hidden layers that were revealed, places up high in the ranking.
13. Himiko Yumeno, the Ultimate Magician
A lazy self-proclaimed mage who developed into an energetic young girl. In the first half of the game, Himiko was the most enjoyable character, thanks to her laziness, weak-will, and very insistent belief on magic. But that all changed after chapter 3.
Between chapter 3 and 4, she changed her character for the better. She stopped suppressing her emotions, build up her will, carried much more energy, and stopped being a liability to the group. While her chuunibyou antics were still present, it wasn't to the point of annoyance. All this made her a much more developed and likable character.
12. Maki Harukawa, the Ultimate Child Caretaker (Ultimate Assassin)
An cold and cynical assassin that slowly turned more friendly and trusting. Maki, at the start, was a very aloof girl, making no attempt to cooperate with the others and pushing away anyone that tries. After her reveal as the assassin, she showed a much more murderous side.
However, after bonding with Kaito and Shuichi, she started developing. She started trusting others, cooperating with the group, and most of all, started liking and accepting herself. However, her violent traits her still present, which kept her very intimidating, as well as willing to kill if she feel it's needed. This makes a nicely developed and complex character.
S-Tier: Danganronpa's Finests
Obviously by the tier level, these are the best characters Danganronpa has to offer; the cream of the crop. These students have the best development out of the three games, the most complexity out of the cast, and are the most lovable characters in the whole series.
11. Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Fashionista (And Despair)
The main villain that started it all. One thing that can describe Junko Enoshima is despair driven. Everything she does if for the sake of despair, not only for the despair of others, but also her own despair. That love for that dark feeling led her to destroy the world single-handedly.
Through Monokuma, we see someone who's comes off as cheerful and annoying childish, yet is actually bloodthirsty, cruel, manipulative, intelligent, and unpredictable. Once revealed, the fashionista showed all that and then some, cementing herself as a crazy, enjoyable, and scary villain.
10. Chihiro Fujisaki, the Ultimate Programmer
A shy and frail programmer with a surprisingly hidden strong will. Despite being in only two chapters, Chihiro proved himself to be a S-level character. For one, Chihiro is a very likable character, being kind (overly so), shy, intelligent, and polite. Secondly, he's quite the complex character, having quite the inferiority complex, yet containing an incredible inner strength.
And when he died in chapter two, that wasn't the end for his character. The programmer lived on through Alter Ego, who played a major role in saving the remaining survivors. That leaves a very likable and complex character, who made a major impact in the story, even in death.
9. Sakura Oogami, the Ultimate Martial Artist
A physically and mentally powerful fighter. The main thing that places Sakura this far is that very strength, along with some humanizing flaws. At the start, she was a mole for Monokuma. The bear held her family dojo hostage, and because of that, she felt that she needed to kill in order to preserve it. Even when she decided to resist him, she took too much time in revealing herself to the others.
But as tension got thicker, and things heated up between the survivors, Sakura decided to sacrifice herself for the remaining group. After giving them a chance to look inside the principal's office, she killed herself, leaving a note for Hina and the others to read, in order to unite them and stop any more murders from happening. A combination of loyalty, bravery, and determination.
8. Nagito Komaeda, the Ultimate Lucky Student
A very lucky psycho who has an undying love for talent and hope. At first, Nagito seemed like a carbon copy of Makoto, being the Ultimate Lucky Student and just overall friendly. But he soon revealed himself as a very twisted individual, whose concept of hope is just as crazy.
What makes so great, however, isn't just his obsession with hope. He's also extremely intelligent, with a tenacity that few in this game could match. He always cycled between being an ally and a threat, and you could never guess what his next move could be. Add to his unnatural lucky streak, and you have an unpredictable class villain.
7. Chiaki Nanami, the Ultimate Gamer
A cute little gamer girl whose friendly, helpful, and surprisingly observant. What brought Chiaki this high on the list is how lovable she can be. For one, she got several different little quirks about her, such as her sleepiness, how blunt she can be, and her social awkwardness.
Another is her observant skill and the affection she holds for her friends. Being surprisingly perceptive, Chiaki was a major help in most of the trials. She also showed several times that she cared for her friends, to the point that actually sacrificed herself to save them. All this, along with her major actions in the game, gives her the S spot.
6. Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, the Ultimate Yakuza
An unfriendly yakuza who developed into a much better friend. In the first part of DR2, Fuyuhiko was as hostile as his talent suggest. However, from chapter 3 onward, he quickly changed into a much more likable character, along with a complex and developed one.
While we saw hints that he isn't just the surly and temperament gangster that he displayed himself as in the beginning, those hints blossomed around the end of Peko's trial and her execution. He became much more kinder, more cooperative, and a greater ally to the survivors.
5. Kyoko Kirigiri, the Ultimate Detective
An intelligent, mysterious, and compose detective with an issue of trust. From beginning to end, Kyoko was a great ally to Makoto and the other survivors. Being a detective, even one amnesiac about her profession, Kyoko help give a more objectionable viewpoint in the trials, often search for clues amongst the school, and often kept herself compose during moments of crisis. She also had a maturity most of the other survivors didn't, making her one of the more level-headed students.
But while she was a major help in the DR1 killing game, she also had flaws of her own, the main one being her trust issues. As you continued playing/watching the game, it clear that Kyoko doesn't fully trust Makoto or other classmates. That lack of trust does become a issue for her, and around the end of the game, she slowly learned to trust her classmates, especially Makoto.
4. Kokichi Oma, the Ultimate Supreme Leader
The embodiment of lies and manipulation. From the beginning, Kokichi introduced himself as someone that cannot be trusted. He often lied, and admitted to it, acted like a sinister villain, and manipulate his fellow survivors when given the chance. However, while he certainly acts villainous, that isn't all to his character.
He's quite pragmatic, having disapprove believing just for the sake of it; extremely intelligent, being one of the main benefactors of the class trials of V3; very perspective, pointing out the flaws within other characters; and ultimately, is someone who wants to stop the killing game, to beat the game itself. All this, and more, made Kokichi an extremely three-dimensional character.
3. Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Lucky Student (And Hope)
A regular boy with a surprising amount of charisma, intelligence, and positivity. At first glance, and even first sitting, Makoto doesn't seem like an S-Rank character, given how plain he can be and the fact that we're playing/looking through his eyes. However, as the game progressed, more and more of his personality is revealed and developed.
The core thing about him is his optimism; while the lucky student is still level-headed, he still believe in the best of others. He's charismatic and determined, which compliments his optimism. He's has a surprising amount of intellect, capable of holding his own against Kyoko. And slowly, throughout the game, he developed into someone who doesn't turn away from the truth, who will keep looking forward no matter the outcome, and can convince those at the edge of despair to do the same.
2. Shuichi Saihara, the Ultimate Detective
A shy yet intelligent detective, who developed into a more confident, yet grounded one. In the first chapter of the game, Shuichi was shy and soft-spoken, never able to look people in the eyes and was self-critical of his own talent. He was scared of revealing the truth, thinking that revealing it doesn't bring anything good.
However, as the game progressed, he slowly grew out of his shell. With a push from Kaede, and with help from Kaito, he develops into someone who's willing to search and face the truth. To someone who believes in others, even when situation says to do otherwise, yet pursue the truth when the possibility cannot be ignored. He became a much more confident individual, yet a grounded and realistic one at the same time. And one that could end the V3 killing game, and possibly any other killing games, for good.
1. Hajime Hinata
A snarky and realistic student turned experiment and villain, with a heavy amount of insecurity. The main thing that bring Hajime the number one spot is development and involvement in DR2. Through the first couple of chapters, he's established as someone who's snarky yet caring, blunt yet thoughtful, and fairly intelligent and logical.
Through the rest of the game, more of his background is revealed, from hints to just being a regular student, to finding out that he became an emotionless husk that's only filled with talent. With each reveal, we watch Hajime grapple with his insecurities, struggle in becoming the confident person he wants to be. By the end, with the help of Chiaki, he became someone who could not only face the future confidently, but be willing to change it into something better.
Conclusion
And that is the end of my Danganronpa series ranking. I hope you found enjoyment reading this. Again, apologies for taking so long with this. Hopefully, the next post will not take as long, especially with more blog ideas running around my read (A few different rankings, some character analyses, etc).
Again, be on the lookout for future posts. If you like what you're seeing, give a review/comment and maybe tell others about it. If you disagree with any of the placements, you can tell me why or even give your own personal ranking. With that, I'll see you guys later.
